Easts Dragon Boat Club

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is dragon boat paddling like?

The perfect mix of fun and fitness! There really is no better feeling than spending the morning out on beautiful Sydney Harbour, working in unison with 19 other paddlers on board with you. Being part of a team and working together towards racing goals motivates you to want to just keep paddling, as does the reward of coffee and breakfast after!

Can I give it a try?

Of course! Easts is open to anyone over the age of 12! Your first three sessions are free, so come on down and try not to catch the paddling bug - we dare you! Contact us to let us know you're interested so we can save you a seat on the boat!

I'm not really competitive, is it still for me?

It most certainly is! Easts is an inclusive club, and with five coaches and three boats, we are able to cater for those who love a bit of competition, and those who would prefer a new form of low impact exercise followed by brekky after!

What do I need to paddle?

While we supply you with a paddle and the boat, we advise you bring the following:

  • A sense of fun and adventure!
  • Wear gym clothes you don't mind getting wet - it's a water sport!
  • Wear shoes, thongs or water shoes that you don't mind getting wet. For official races and regattas you will need closed toe shoes.
  • A water bottle (preferably not metal, as they clink in the boat).
  • Wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunnies if you like.
  • Bring a change of clothes so you can enjoy brekky after with the team.

Will someone be there to show me what to do?

There certainly will be! All newcomers are very well looked after by one of our five coaches. You will receive advice on form and technique, as well as a lot of encouragement from the team - we were all new paddlers once, and we remember what it felt like.

Where do Easts train?

Easts train out of Rose Bay in beautiful Sydney Harbour. When the weather and training schedules permit, we often venture to nearby scenic locations including Double Bay, Vaucluse Bay, Neilson Park, and Watsons Bay. See our Training page for further details on times and meeting points.

Now hurry up and contact us - the boat is ready and waiting for you!
